Jumpstart your risk management efforts with practical tips that save you time, effort and money…

I have a confession to make… I want to change the world and I want to do it with risk management. We waste too many resources, damage our environment and put too many peoples lives at risk due to poor judgment and inappropriate resource allocation.

This book and others to follow are the way in which I would like to change the world if only ever so slightly, and if they help people to make better risk informed decisions then I will be happy to have contributed, however slightly.

About the authors

We've worked together on a range of client projects at Jakeman Business Solutions; but it was in collaborating on our first book, the Security Risk Management Body of Knowledge (SRMBOK) that we were able to share our decades of experience with a larger audience. The positive response to SRMBOK, especially reader requests for more information, has encouraged us to write a second, broader book on risk management.

Julian Talbot, M Risk Mgmt, CPP, FRMIA

Julian is a Director of the Security Analysis and Risk Management Association (SARMA), Fellow of the Risk Management Institution of Australasia (RMIA) and CEO of Jakeman Business Solutions (JBS). He holds a Master of Risk Management and is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) with over 20 years international risk management experience. Julian has developed and managed risk management budgets of over $50 million and built performance scorecards for the $30 billion Australian Defense Organization. His experience includes projects in Africa, Asia, Central America and Europe as well as roles as Manager of Property and Security for the Australian Government’s most extensive overseas network (Austrade) with offices in 60 countries, Senior Risk Adviser for the Australian Department of Health and Ageing, Security Manager for Australia’s largest natural resources project, Woodside’s $27 billion North West Shelf Venture.

Miles Jakeman, PhD

Miles is the Managing Director of the The Citadel Group Limited. His key skills cover business strategy, program management and security risk management. Over a 20-year career, Miles has worked with the Australian Department of Defense, the Australian Security Intelligence Organization (ASIO) and the Australian Federal Police, as well as with multinational companies. In all of these capacities, Miles has provided advice on security and risk issues, including representing countries in ministerial level forums. Miles is a member of the Australian institute of Company Directors (AICD) and the ACT Capital Angels, a preferred Risk Management Supplier to the Australasian Business Travelers’ Association, an Associate of the Asia-Pacific Cabin Safety Working Group, and an Associate of RMIA. Miles has a PhD on the topic of Islamic intellectuals in Indonesia and their links to the country’s political power centers and extremist religious groups. He also holds a second PhD in Business Leadership, a Bachelor of Science (Honors) and a Graduate Diploma (Asian Studies). He speaks two foreign languages and received a University of New South Wales commendation in 1990 for academic excellence during his postgraduate studies.
